CO₂ capture

The carbon dioxide obtained from the purification of biogas is not released into the atmosphere but is recovered and cooled thanks to the CO₂ capture plant built in partnership with Sico. This results in a bio-CO₂ that complies with high quality standards and is used in the food sector.

More information

Through the CO capture plant₂, built by Enomondo in collaboration with Sico, during the biogas purification process, the carbon dioxide fraction – a bio-CO₂of natural origin – is captured and treated in order to comply with food and beverage industry standards (E290 and ISBT certification).

The plant captures the CO₂ and makes it liquid at a temperature of -30°C.

Liquefaction of biomethane

Thanks to the new biomethane liquefaction (BioLNG) plant, built in partnership with Ham Italia, Caviro Extra's biomethane, previously produced in gaseous form, is now liquefied to become a valid solution for the decarbonisation of heavy transport.

Thermoelectric power plant

The thermoelectric power plant generates both thermal and electrical energy using solid biomass, mainly of renewable origin. This thermal energy makes the Faenza production site completely self-sufficient, while the electricity, in addition to fully satisfying its needs, is fed into the grid for public use.

CO₂ capture

The carbon dioxide obtained from the purification of biogas is not released into the atmosphere but is recovered and cooled thanks to the CO₂ capture plant built in partnership with Sico. This results in a bio-CO₂ that complies with high quality standards and is used in the food sector.

Biogas upgrading

Thanks to a membrane filtration system, in the upgrading plant the biogas is purified by separating carbon dioxide and other unwanted components to obtain biomethane.

Biogas cogeneration

A portion of the biogas obtained through anaerobic digestion in the cogeneration plant is converted into electrical and thermal energy. The former is partly reused for internal consumption and partly fed into the network, the latter is used to maintain the process conditions inside the biodigesters.

District heating

Opened in 2022, the Caviro Extra and Enomondo district heating plant generates thermal energy from biomass. This is used to power the plant and the offices at the Faenza site and is distributed externally for industrial and civil use.

ACFA

Enomondo's new plant for producing ACFA (Composted Soil Improver from Agri-Food Chain Waste) recovers the digestate produced by the purification of agri-food wastewater which, together with public and private green waste, returns organic matter to the soil in the form of compost.

Water purification

The process water used at the Faenza site is purified and reused for secondary purposes, avoiding the withdrawal of 557 million litres of groundwater every year.
