The process water used at the Faenza site is purified and reused for secondary purposes, avoiding the withdrawal of 557 million litres of groundwater every year.

The recovery of process water is part of a broader commitment to enhancing the by-products of the agri-food chain. Being an organic mass, what remains of this process – sludge, waste, effluent – still has a high potential for recovery and the Eco-Energy division transforms it into energy and soil improver.
process description
- Waste collection: two areas dedicated to the introduction of waste based on physical state (liquid and semi-solid)
- Anaerobic digestion and biogas production: 9 digesters with total capacity of 38,000 m³
- De-nitro-Nitro biological treatment: 4 biological tanks for the conversion of ammonia into nitrogen gas
- Decantation
- Reuse for secondary purposes and discharge into public sewers: over 40% of the water is reused in the Caviro Extra plant
