Faenza, 09 November 2023<\/em> \u2013 The Caviro Group<\/strong>, an international leader in the circular economy, has revolutionised<\/strong>the synergistic approach<\/strong> of the wine industry and – through Caviro Extra<\/strong> – the very concepts of sustainability and innovation<\/strong>,enhancing and transforming what was once considered waste into a resource.<\/p>\n

Against the backdrop of Ecomondo<\/strong> the leading European event on the ecological transition – Caviro presented the next step on its sustainable development path<\/strong> , a journey which has seen the Group achieve numerous important goals over the years, such as the production and supply of green energy for public use, circularity from vineyard to vineyard and major water savings, to name just a few.<\/p>\n

In fact, Caviro is already busy analysing the carbon assessment performed on all the Group’s sites<\/strong>, with the aim of defining its carbon footprint<\/strong> and implementing concrete decarbonisation strategies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u201cPerforming a carbon assessment” – explainsSilvia Buzzi, HSE & Sustainability Manager Caviro Extra<\/strong> – \u201cmeans defining your carbon footprint on the planet, that is, determining which and how many types of greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong> are directly and indirectly related to Caviro’s complex business structure. The Caviro Group, in regard to Italy, has once again demonstrated its foresight and commitment by deciding to proceed independently and voluntarily with this project\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The carbon assessment of the Faenza site<\/strong> – where subsidiaries Caviro Extra<\/strong> and Enomondo operate<\/strong> – has already been completed based on the data for fiscal year 21\/22<\/strong>the emissions calculation was carried out in collaboration with ClimatePartner<\/strong>which is responsible for calculating CO2 emissions and for supporting companies in implementing climate action and offsetting strategies<\/strong> through climate protection projects.<\/p>\n

Based on the GHG Protocol<\/strong>, the analysis classifies emissions into 3 categories: Scope 1 – direct emissions<\/strong>, generated by the company, which in the case of Caviro are very low – Scope 2<\/strong> – indirect emissions<\/strong>, generated by energy purchased and consumed, equal to zero at the Faenza site where only self-produced green energy is used – and Scope 3 – indirect emissions generated by the company’s value chain<\/strong> (e.g. employee commutes, transfers, waste, inbound and outbound transport, packaging, etc.).<\/p>\n

According to the results, Scope 1 and 2 emissions amounted to 22,981 tonnes of CO2<\/strong> a very low figure<\/strong> considering the business volumes of Extra and Enomondo and proof of how the circular economy at the Faenza site is geared to making the greatest use of waste from the agri-food industry while minimising environmental impacts.<\/p>\n

This calculation is the first step in defining the company’s decarbonisation strategies, which will enable us to set ourselves the goal of becoming a carbon compensated company. It was an important project and one that enabled us to develop valuable new skills ahead of the future challenges that companies will have to face”<\/em> concludesBuzzi<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Currently, the assessment is being carried out on the data relating to fiscal year 2022\/23<\/strong> – which closed on 31 August – for all the Group’s sites: Forl\u00ec, Savignano sul Panaro (MO) and Fumane (VR)<\/strong>, where wine is processed and bottled.<\/p>\n

Once the carbon footprint is defined, emissions can be offset<\/strong> by purchasing carbon credits<\/strong> that finance certified environmental protection projects<\/strong>, which Caviro will choose on the basis of the 9 SDGs<\/strong> of the UN 2030 Agenda on which it carries out concrete action.<\/p>\n

In addition, through the carbon assessment, it will be possible to implement decarbonisation projects along the supply chain, i.e. Scope 3 emissions, with positive commercial implications also on the product<\/strong>: buying and using a carbon compensated product will be a source of pride both for the companies that produce it and the consumer that uses it.<\/p>\n

The 5th edition of the Sustainability Report, published next spring,<\/strong>will be dedicated to the results of the Group’s carbon assessment and the decarbonisation strategies implemented through the financing of certified projects<\/strong> in disadvantaged countries forced to deal with the consequences of the climate changes brought about by industrialised countries.<\/p>\n
