{"id":9264,"date":"2019-08-01T16:45:00","date_gmt":"2019-08-01T14:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/caviroextra.it\/non-categorizzato\/bioplastic-from-sewage-sludge-b-plas-demo-project-presented\/"},"modified":"2024-05-16T17:13:20","modified_gmt":"2024-05-16T15:13:20","slug":"bioplastic-from-sewage-sludge-b-plas-demo-project-presented","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/caviroextra.it\/en\/news-en\/bioplastic-from-sewage-sludge-b-plas-demo-project-presented\/","title":{"rendered":"Bioplastic from sewage sludge: B-PLAS Demo project presented"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"9264\" class=\"elementor elementor-9264 elementor-6657\" data-elementor-post-type=\"post\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9f82a9d e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"9f82a9d\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-959fdb6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"959fdb6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Recently <strong>Caviro Extra<\/strong>, with a project led by the<strong>University of Bologna<\/strong> also involving <strong>AIJU<\/strong>the Spanish technological institute for toy development, and the Hungarian <strong>Pannon Pro Innovation<\/strong>a consultancy and innovation agency focused on climate change, presented a large audience of researchers and representatives from the production world with <span style=\"color: #8db844;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #8db844;\" href=\"https:\/\/site.unibo.it\/b-plas\/en\/what-s-new\" target=\"_new\">B-PLAS Demothe first trial plant for the production of PHAs<\/a><\/strong><\/span> (polyhydroxyalkanoates), <strong>biological and biodegradable plastics<\/strong> that will be made from food waste and waste sludge from treatment plants that treat agri-food chain waste.<\/p>\n<p>or the Faenza-based company, this represents a further step towards <strong>the complete enhancement of agri-food chain waste<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The plant is part of the <strong>B-PLAS Demo project funded by EIT Climate-KIC<\/strong>, an organisation representing <strong>400 public and private partners from 25 nations<\/strong> created to foster innovation able to <strong>reduce carbon dioxide emissions<\/strong> and accelerate decarbonisation processes. Established in 2010, in recent years EIT Climate-KIC has contributed to the <strong>financing of over 3.4 billion euros of technological innovation projects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>B-PLAS Demo, which <strong>will soon undergo the testing phase<\/strong> in which operational data is collected on the process, aims to <strong>produce PHAs using the residual carbon contained in sludge<\/strong> deriving from public and private treatment plants thanks to a series of <strong>simple, reliable and low-cost technologies.<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>These special <strong>biodegradable plastics<\/strong> can be used to produce packaging, single-use products, 3D prints and much more. <em>\u00abThe advantage of this technology,\u201d explains Cristian Torri, head of the project, \u201cis that although the bioplastic produced is very valuable, the cost of production is reduced because the materials we use are usually discarded by major businesses\u00bb<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the cheapest bioplastic reel costs more than \u20ac30\/kg, pellets more than \u20ac4\/kg: this new technology will make it possible to acquire PHAs <strong>at extremely competitive prices<\/strong>, enabling us to manufacture high quality products using processing waste.
