Caviro Extra, thanks to its Alcohols Division, has the largest production capacity for ethyl alcohol in Italy.
With its products, all of agricultural origin, it responds to the needs of all sectors of ethyl alcohol use - pharmaceutical, food, cosmetics, industrial - and at the same time, through the development of advanced bioethanol used to produce energy, it offers a natural alternative fuel for bio-stoves and bio-fireplaces.
The quality of Caviro Extra alcohol, 100% biobased, derives from its vinous origin, linked to Caviro Group's wine production chain, which is the largest in Italy, to which cereals and sugars are added
Caviro Extra dispone inoltre di un deposito costiero presso il porto di Ravenna, attrezzato per carico e scarico di navi e treni.
The production capacity of alcohol at the Faenza site is over 90 million litres, produced in several distillation plants and in a modern molecular sieve dehydration plant.
In addition to an ageing warehouse for spirits, there is an in-line denaturing plant for ethyl alcohol, a plant for mixing bioethanol with petrol (E85) and an R&D department, available to customers to evaluate feasibility studies for customised solutions and special recipes.
Caviro Extra also has a coastal depot at the port of Ravenna, equipped for loading and unloading ships and trains.
Alcohol fermentation and distillation are ancient techniques. Caviro Extra alcohol is used in many sectors, depending on the variations in alcohol strength and purity.
These are the main ones:
Neutral alcohol (min 96°), a product of agricultural origin, is used for alcoholic beverages, flavourings, essences, but also for spirits for confectionery, acetification and food preservation.
The chemical molecule of ethyl alcohol, which complies with the European Pharmacopoeia, is used both as an excipient and as a denaturant, solvent and etherifier.
Ethyl alcohol is used, after special denaturation, in the preparation of various products including perfumes, hairsprays, mouthwashes and general cosmetics.
In addition, denatured alcohol, with its classic pink colour, is commonly used in domestic cleaning, as well as in the sanitation of rooms and objects.
Ethyl alcohol is an excellent solvent for fats, resins, esters, organic substances, paints for the preparation of inks as well as food colourings and, in general, all applications where the product is a reagent or solvent.
Caviro Extra has obtained sustainability certification to market FIRST-GENERATION BIOETHANOL (of agricultural origin from cereals) and advanced SECOND-GENERATION BIOETHANOL, obtained from by-products of the wine production chain, both at a European level and within the Italian national scheme.
Both are used as a natural automotive fuel, for direct blending in gasoline and for the production of ETBE (ethyl tert-butyl ether).
Caviro Extra, at its Faenza plant, also deals with the direct production of blends (from E-5 to E-85), thanks to a specific denaturing plant.
In 2020 Caviro Extra launched on the market its Liquid Hand Sanitiser, made entirely from agricultural alcohol.
It uses a formula conforming to World Health Organisation guidelines, which guarantees maximum effectiveness for hand hygiene.
The four ingredients ensure maximum sanitising power, while protecting the skin from dehydration.
The presence of alcohol is as high as 80, and water, glycerine and hydrogen peroxide in the liquid formula avoid a sticky effect, ensuring the right contact time
for in-depth action.
