Faenza, April 30, 2024 – The Composted soil improver from agri-food chain scraps (ACFA) produced by Enomondoat the Faenza site, has been awarded the «Quality Compost CIC» label issued by the Italian Composting and Biogas Association (ita C.I.C. Consorzio Italiano Compostatori). The label certifies the quality of this type of organic fertilizer, adding to the other types of amendments produced by Enomondo’s facilities. The fertilizers are made from the processing residues of Caviro Extra, a company that recovers waste from the wine sector of the Caviro Group, as well as from agro-food industry waste and green waste collected by Herambiente.
«We are delighted to award the first CIC label for the Composted Amendment from Agro-Food Supply Chain Waste to Enomondo, which has demonstrated innovation in proposing this new solution of sustainability and quality to its customers» said Lella Miccolis, President of CIC.
The ACFA is a natural fertiliser made by recovering the digestate remaining at the end of the production of advanced biomethane by Caviro Extra, using by-products from the agro-food supply chain. After extensive experimentation, the residual sludge, initially used for agronomic spreading, has found its place in the new plant where it becomes an excellent soil conditioner thanks to the addition of prunings and the composting process.
«Distribution in the field has shown that the use of ACFA allows for a reduction in the use of chemical fertilisers by up to 50%, with resulting benefits for both farmers and the environment – saidGiovanni Ferrucci, Enomondo’s sales manager -. The product’s characteristics are particularly functional for the recovery and restoration of flooded agricultural lands: the organic matter recreates a fertile environment where silt has caused soil asphyxiation.
«Producing soil conditioner from clippings, prunings, digestate, and agro-food supply chain waste allows us to obtain compost of excellent quality, suitable for extensive field use as well as for floriculture and landscaping – reportsMassimo Centemero, Director of CIC -. An excellent synthesis of the meaning of circular economy».
The production process of ACFA takes place indoors, in a 10,000 square meter warehouse, under constant aspiration. The plant has a production capacity of 40,000 tons and was inaugurated in 2022 following an investment of 8.5 million euros. «The demand for this type of fertilizer has been enormous, and the production plant will soon be expanded to increase its production capacity to 70,000 tons» explains Ferrucci.
