With this award the Group from Faenza becomes, by right, a candidate for the European Business Award for the Environment. A new investment of 10 million euro in the green sector is planned over the coming months.
The Caviro Group, with its project "From the vine to advanced bio-fuelling, Caviro makes this possible", has won the Italian Environmental Business Award 2020 in the category "Best management for sustainable development in medium-sized or large enterprises", for companies that demonstrate a strategic vision and a management model capable of ensuring continuous improvement and a constant contribution to sustainable development, combining environmental, economic and social aspects.
Marco Frey, Professor of Economics and Business Management at the Scuola Universitaria Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa and president of the jury, gave the following reasons for the award: "Caviro is one of the most significant examples of an integrated supply chain in the wine sector, whose commitment to the pursuit of sustainability is characterised by a long-term strategic vision. Know-how and equipment allow Caviro not only to produce quality wine in its own facilities, but also to transform all the by-products of winemaking, giving waste the dignity of a resource that is regenerated and re-enters the production cycle. Also worthy of note is the potential for spreading these principles on a large scale, as Caviro is present on the market with well-known brands."
The award was made public during the award ceremony live on YouTube, which took place in the afternoon of Friday 19 February and was attended by Carlo Dalmonte, Chairman of Caviro. "We are very honoured to receive this award, which I dedicate to our 12,400 member farmers," said Dalmonte. "Ours is a story that starts from grapes and arrives at grapes in a virtuous circle that is not only ideal but also real. Thanks to the circular economy, Caviro does not produce waste but only raw materials, and it does so by combining environmental protection and business, because people are increasingly careful to buy products from a responsible supply chain and reward those who, on a daily basis, question the effect of their actions. This has convinced us to carry on and continue to invest."
The Premio Impresa Ambiente is one of the highest Italian awards for companies that have made an innovative contribution in terms of environmental sustainability and social responsibility to the management of their business.
Promoted six years after the last edition by the Chamber of Commerce of Venice Rovigo, with the collaboration of Unioncamere and the patronage of the Ministry for the Environment and the Protection of Land and Sea, it saw the participation of 125 candidates from 17 regions of Italy.
Together with the other award-winning companies, Caviro, which was given specific mention by the jury, will then participate in the selection of the European Business Award for the Environment.
